Designing wedding guest outfit. Winter wedding, mother-of-bride, mother-of-groom.

Couture designer Ieva Poriete working on a mother-of-bride, mother-of groom outfit for a winter wedding. We had pre-selected gorgeous, silk jacquard printed silk. Floral pattern in teal on a salmon pink background. Refreshing colour for autumn/winter. This colour combination can take you all year around if you are a guest of the wedding and don’t need formal overcoat. Challenge if this project is to match the right colour and fabric for the outfit. Mother-of-bride outfits typically come in pastel colours. We are exploring options of a stronger colour and pattern. Fabric used in this video are silk jacquard for dress and either silk mikado or crushed velvet for the jacket. Just like in a wedding party we are having a random conversation. We start the video by discussing names of the colours and what is the most appropriate name for the shade of mikado twill that we used for coat. At first Peter is unsure if teal is a flattering colour, but it grows on him and half way through the video he compliments how beautiful the outfit is. Did you know that teal is named after a bird? We touch the subject of birds, feathers and colours named after it. The unexpected Victoria crown pigeon takes the conversation to the one of the worlds best selling books - Pilgrims Progress by John Bunyan. Like in a real wedding party you might stuck the most unexpected conversation with someone and find out facts you didn’t know. We conclude the video of looking back at the beginning how did we end up with mikado fabric. You have to love it first before anyone else will love it. It’s a mantra that I often use in my work, especially when choosing fabrics, colours or style details. Mother-of-bride has an important role at the wedding therefore her outfit has to be carefully considered. The right outfit, dress and shoes will determine how much you will enjoy the day. Comfort, confidence and elegance play and equal part in equation of successful event.
